VINEYARDS
Kaimira Ventures owns and operates three vineyards and receives grapes from a nearby contract grower in Golden Hills. All vineyards are Sustainable Winegrowing accredited and viticultural practices are overseen by our manager. All the vineyards are relatively closely planted with a row width of 2.4 m and vine spacing varying from 0.9 m for some Mendoza Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer to up to 2 m for Sauvignon Blanc. All vines are vertical shoot position (VSP) pruned which means each year the crop is taken from one year old cane.
RIVER TERRACE
This 6 hectare vineyard was planted in 1997-98. It is located alongside the Wairoa River and the soils are river alluvium interspersed with stones washed down from the nearby hills over many centuries. The free draining low fertility soil helps balance the natural vigor of the vines while contributing highly desirable mineral characteristics to the wines. The site produces Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Noir grapes.
WINERY BLOCK
Parts of this 10 hectare vineyard were originally planted in 1995. The subsoils are free draining river stone and gravels with a shallow top layer of clay based silt. The site produces Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Semillion, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Muscat and Syrah grapes.
LIVINGSTON ROAD
This 10.5 hectare vineyard was planted in 2007. The subsoils are free draining river stone and gravels with a shallow top layer of clay based silt. The site will produce Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot grapes.
